Cerebral vasodilator therapy in stroke.

چکیده
Cerebral Vasodilator Therapy in Stroke • Cerebral vasodilating agents have been questioned as an effective form of therapy for the stroke patient and even have been considered by some to be harmful. Animal studies show that often vasodilating agents will cause an intracerebral steal, but such a reaction has rarely been demonstrated in stroke patients. Several studies measuring cerebral blood flow in man have shown that vasodilating agents will increase cerebral blood flow even in ischemic regions in some patients. Significant clinical studies have not been carried out to determine whether these agents will alter the natural history of the disease. On the basis of reported studies of the effect of vasodilating agents on the cerebral circulation, it is suggested that further laboratory and clinical studies be performed. These agents could potentially be an effective form of therapy in some patients with occlusive cerebrovascular disease. Additional

The effect of intra-arterial papaverine on the regional cerebral blood flow in patients with stroke or intracranial tumor.
The Effect of Intraarterial Papaverine on the Regional Cerebral Blood Flow in Patients with Stroke or Intracranial Tumor • The effect of intracarotid injection of 10 mg of papaverine on regional cerebral blood flow was measured in 27 patients. Most of the patients had cerebral infarction or intracranial neoplasm. The intra-arterial Xenon injection method was used and 16 or 35 regions of the dis...
متن کاملCholinergic cerebral vasodilator effect of ketamine in rabbits.
To analyze the mechanism of the cerebral vasodilator effect of ketamine in anesthetized rabbits, we measured the internal carotid blood flow with an electromagnetic flowmeter, the arterial pressure, intracranial pressure, end-tidal CO2, and the electroencephalogram. Ketamine injection (1 mg/kg) induced a significant cerebral vasodilatation that was blocked by scopolamine, a cholinergic antagoni...
متن کاملA paradoxical cerebral hemodynamic effect of hydralazine.
Hydralazine is shown to have a very complex cerebral hemodynamic effect. It raises the intracranial pressure which, together with its effect upon systemic blood pressure, reduces the cerebral perfusion pressure. In spite of this and a concomitantly induced hyperventilation by hydralazine, CBF increases with some delay. The conclusion is that hydralazine is a cerebral vasodilator acting immediat...
متن کاملTranscranial Doppler and vasodilators therapy as predictors of early outcome in acute ischemic stroke
The clinical impact of risk factors and vasodilator therapy in prevention of acute ischemic stroke remains uncertain. Ischemic stroke was considered severe in the Romanian Stroke Prevention Society. Poor outcome are at 10 days after onset of a minor ischaemic stroke or a transient ischaemic attack. The association between predictors and outcome was assessed using unconditional multivariable log...
متن کاملAction of vasodilators on regional cerebral blood flow in subacute or chronic cerebral ischemia.
Regional cerebral blood flow (bicompartmental and stochastic method) was measured in a series of 20 patients with unilateral brain softening. Measurements were repeated during the administration of a vasodilator. A deterimental effect on the perfusion of the disease area was observed in the majority of cases. It has been shown that the chances for a vasodilator to decrease the perfusion in the ...
